Bruce Goff
(b. Alton, Kansas 1904; d. Tyler, Texas 1982)
Bruce Goff was born in Alton, Kansas in 1904. Apprenticed at the age of twelve to Rush, Endacott and Rush of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Goff became a partner with the firm in 1930. Self-educated and exceptionally creative, his designs often depended on creative free-association and borrowed materials.
Without academic credentials Goff became a professor of architecture at the University of Oklahoma. In his capacity as teacher, Goff emphasized a design curriculum based on creativity. Within his private practice, Goff introduced a form of organic architecture that was sensitive to both client needs and site constraints.
With very strong convictions about the importance of individuality, Goff created isolated one-family houses in tree enshrouded pockets of the Great Plains. Although Goff's buildings relied on a combination of structural clarity and spatial complexity, they also used a form of decorative detailing that contrasted with the typical simplicity of twentieth century buildings.
Goff died in Tyler, Texas in 1982.

Bruce Goff
Architetto , maestro dell'architettura organica sperimentale , nato nel 1904 ad Alton , Kansas , USA , e morto a Tyler , USA , nel 1982 . E' stato uno degli allievi più importanti di Frank Lloyd Wright , sviluppando una originale , autonoma e sperimentale architettura organica .
La sua architettura era imperniata sul principio della creatività e della individualità , con utilizzo di strutture sperimentali e un sapiente uso dei materiali , in maniera originale ed espressiva.
La sua filosofia del continuo presente , dell'iniziare ed ancora iniziare riferito al processo di progettazione e costruzione dell'architettura , ricavato da una profonda analisi della realtà della vita , una vita concepita poeticamente come luogo privilegiato della manifestazione dello spirito creativo .
L’architetto “… usa geometrie, l’origine delle quali è sconosciuta, e trova anche ispirazione nelle forme libere della natura, …”. Lo spirito creativo, suggerisce Goff, si ispira liberamente alle forme presenti ovunque nel mondo naturale ed artificiale che lo circonda e, nell’atto compositivo, le ri-organizza in configurazioni completamente nuove ed originali. In questo processo le forme passano da uno stato di pura intuizione, senza autore, a quello di arte rivelata e resa tangibile. Il merito dell’architetto, afferma Bruce Goff, risiede proprio nell’essere l’artefice di questo passaggio e nel produrre un’opera che subentri nel ciclo del “presente-continuo” come il contributo personale, ma anche impersonale, che lo spirito creativo dell’autore può offrire alla collettività.
Bruce Goff è stato professore all'Università dell'Oklahoma dove ha imperniato il suo insegnamento sul principio della creatività in architettura contro la tirannia dello 'stile'. Ha realizzato più di duecento opere di architettura che si distinguono per una originale concezione spaziale organica .
